How to upgrade to power steering in a 66?
Hi Team,
I have a 1966 A code GT Convertible with a top loader and want to install power steering. What is the most effective way to do this without costing thousands of dollars? Any idea on parts that would fit easily and where to source?
Cheers Bee

the most cost effective would be using a factory set off another stang...then add a quick steer steering box.
NPD or any parts store/junkyard will have what you need
tie rods,drag link, pitman arm,idler arm,pump,bracket,steering box,hoses...etc

By the time you buy all the used items, rebuild them, sort out the crap that can't be rebuilt, buy another and get it rebuilt you could be looking at 600 to 800 bucks. There is a guy on eBay selling completely rebuilt power steering setups ready for install. Goes by the ID chockostang. Here is one of his setups for a 66.. excluding a new box. Just an option that doesn't cost 1000s.
I'm considering one of his setups for our 67.

wasnt the factory P/S really useless though? wouldnt it be better to use a pump of a latermodel car add R&P from another car and a quick ratio steering box for about the same money maybe more? but it would also some fabrication time

you can pick up a rp from a II for about $60 off most junkyards, and a new box, some fabbing, would be manual rack, which is still pretty much better than old POWER steering, and way cheaper than the $1300 kits that contain the same ****
