You're going to be hard pressed to get a full center sectionset up for less than $600
That's not entirely true. If you're looking for something... I don't care what it is... andneed to have it "right now", chances are pretty good that you're going to pay dearly for it.

Last Fall on eBay I bought a rebuilt 9" Trac-Loc with a 3.50 gear set for $202.51.... plus$90 for shipping (center sections are pretty darn heavy).I'd watched probably 40-50 auctions over the course of the Summer/Fall and my patience finally paid off.

Keep in mind that many other Ford vehicles used 8 and 9 inch center sections. While the housings/axles from these other vehicles may not fit under a classic Mustang, the center sections are interchangable to the housings. TheTrac-Loc Ibought was from a 4WD guy who was going to put it into his Bronco.

I agree with the others.... unless you're making oodles of torque, you're not going to grenade an open 8" rearend.

Since money is an issue, have you thought about a late model 8.8 posi unit with disc brakes? It's a little bit more work, but the 8.8's are lying around everywhere.

Yes, I have thought about them, but I would still end up having to get custom axles since the stock Foxbodies are 4 lug, and other cars are too wide, so I would have to get it narrowed. I think I know what I am going to do, maybe... A guy here at work is giving me a 9 inch out of a 78 bronco, but I have to drive an hour away and take it out.It is roughly 4.75 inches too wide, so it would have to be narrowed. Also, it is more than likely 28 spline and they probably can not be resplined. I would have to buy new axles, but a set of 31 pline mosers can be had for $300. I can then get a used 31 spline trac loc and rebuild it. The good news is that the housing is the heavy duty truck one, and should have the 350 gear in it which would be fine by me, so I could save money on the housing and gears, and just have to buy a trac loc and some new shafts and bearings. Any other suggestions?
