Anyone can tell that I like my Vic Jrs,,,,, but I have to laugh when I think about the "shiny spots" that those AFR heads are leaving on the block,,, I am certain it has nothing to do with lots boost from a turbo right?

(I really am on the verge of laughing!)
I'm on the verge of really laughing. I hardly think 9psi is very much boost. The shiny spot is in the head itself, not the block. The metal in the head itself, gets compressed simply from being torqued down, and it's not just my set of heads. Nor does it have anything to do with the turbo. Rich's car, the silver turbo car, runs canfields, and a turbo, yet no compression in the head around the bolt holes like AFR's.

Even though I do not really want to, we maybe should cut AFR a little slack in this specific case!
Nah. The problem lies with the product, not really the application.

Hey CPR....
what are your thoughts on the effect of the boost on the heads and what have you seen similar or dis-similar on other brands and styles of heads? This has to be a tough environment for heads!
Eh, not really any different than making the same amount of HP say with your motor. If we both make 500 hp, we both have pretty close to the same cylinder pressure. The effects on the heads are the same. They are both trying to blow the heads off the block. HP and the tune kills parts, for the most part, not the method you use to get there.
We haven't seen any other head do the same as AFR. You can tell when a company uses good metal to make a head when you try to weld it. Canfields aren't the best either, but not as bad as AFR. Edelbrocks heads are much better. Aluminum is very particular about being clean when welding. You can see the other heads really open up and become very porous and watch the crap come out of the material.

Thanks CPR!

Does my lack of experience with boosted applications show?

Thanks for the lesson. I guess I did not really think through the whole thing before I made someassumptions (or a lot of assumptions) about the stress actually imposed by the turbo.

I think I was over reaching in my attempt to give AFR the benefit of the doubt,,,

but I don't really know why Idid thatthough, Iknow I was kind of glad to seea public reasonthat justifiedour choice of Edelbrocks overAFRs... Damn the human Psyche.....
