If I ever get them I am getting them off of Ebay. 60 a pair bond on. Do like what mustang dad said, bondo and fiberglass.

The OP is talking about a '66 car.... not a 67-68 car. Yes, the '68 GT/CS scoops were bonded on, but the '65-66 scoops are completely different in design than the 67-68 cars. The 65-66 scoops molded onto the car would (IMO) look "ricer".

I've got the camera in the shop and I'll take some pictures tomorrow of both the riveted on '66 scoops (as per Shelby, not my idea) and the bonded on '67-68 scoops.

Well I guess I'll have to just buy the fiberglass ones. Maybe I can make a bracket for the fiberglass ones and use the stock holes for the side moldings?

You can buy the bolt on sytle side scoops for either the 65-66 and 67-68. You can also buy the bond on style for either year as well. The only problem I have with the bolt on's is alignment. If its not centered and drilled perfectly then it wont alignwith the body lines and will look like crud. The bond on's can be molded (using fiberglass and bondo) to align perfectly and look almost natural. Also, the bolt on's can and do loosen over time, and yes the bond on's can crack due to increased air pressure in the scoop, but my son has had our '65 coupe upto 105 with the bond on's and no problems with cracking. But, it all boils down to whatyou, the owner, want your car to look like and what works best for you.

I'm not so sure thatincreased air pressure/air resistance is the main culprit of bonded on components.

Of greater concern is the different rates at whichmetal (the body panel) and FG (the molded/bonded onscoop) expand and contract. In the hot sun, bothpieces are the same temperature. If all of a sudden it rains.... the cooling metal will contract faster than the FG due toit's chemical composition/cooling properties. Over time, this constant expanding and contractingWILL cause cracks at bonded on locations. If it hasn't happened yet, don't worry, it will, just give it more time. There are new bonding agents on the market today (3M 8115, et al) that are stronger than ever before, but I imagine that even these will produce cracks over a period of time.

You could make them out of metal butif you get fiberglass ones http://www.cobranda.com/ has the best fitting fiberglass parts i seen but hes not cheap but its cheaper in the long run then making them fit.Your sons nuts taking a old mustang to 105 please tell me the car has front disc.If you bolt or pop rviet them on is the best glued on only doesn't hold i seen many stick on hood scoops do the same thing over time.

Laughs...the front discs was the first thing we installed after we got the car. And he did tell me was goign to take it to 105....he did it then told me about it...I was not happy. The epoxy glue we used on the side scoops was only to keep them in place while the fibreglass cured. And yes our hood scoop did infact lift at the front corners because I didnt bring the fiberglass around the leading edges, thats gonna get fixed soon.

You are apt to bash the side scoops with your knee, and if they are bonded on, a crack may result. I just fit them and bolt them on (7&8's). It seems like Branda has the best quality. They do catch a lot of air at speed. I am with Dave on the differ in materials expanding at different rates resulting in stress cracks. Often this results in cracks in the seams. It seems that even the paint may expand at a different rate than the fiberglass resulting in those spider web cracks. If anyone knows how to solve this, I'm all ears.
