Default Battery relocation...

So, I'm relocating the battery to the trunk. I'm thinking about mounting it on the passenger side becuase it seems to lay flatter and it's the shortest distance to the alternator. Any suggestions/advice/tips? I know the passenger side can also offer more downforce on the drive tire, but I upgraded to trac-loc recently, so I guess it doesn't matter either way in that respect.

Mine is in the back on the pass side. A neat trick I did is use the stock batt tray from the front and mounted it so the batt was half in the fender. Worked out beautifully and solid. I don't have any pics yet but I can try to post some later this week if you need.

from a performance perspective you want to mount it in the rear passenger side. saleen pu a car on their digital scales, by taking a 40 lb batter off the front end and placing it in teh back it effectively put 80lbs of wieght on the rear tire. which is where you need the wieght most for traction under hard acceleration.

but who cares about performance right? its all about looking good[8D]

My car didn't have a tray with it when I bought it, but I got that nifty aluminum box that you can see in the picture for a decent price...

What gauge wire will I need to run from the alternator to the battery? Itll have to go nearly the entire length of the car, so lets round and say 15ft?

It's also a good idea to either run a remote-vented batteryor an Optima, which doesn't vent at all. You don't want hydrogen gas to build up in your trunk.

Haha, I'll just hook up an igniter button to occasionally clear out that gas.

I was considering an Optima battery, but I wont need a battery till my car gets closer tobeing able to drive. No need buying a battery now and letting it sit for who knows how long before I can even use it...

You mean Alternator to Starter Solenoid?

All you have to route is the starter solenoid to battery in the trunk.

4 gauge is standard,8 gauge would be the limit.
0 or 2 gauge is hard to work with (bending and routing) but of course it's a thicker wire and there for better for higher demand applications.
Try to find a good ANTI-ACID MAT for under the battery box (just incase)

Oh, ok. I have no existing set-up to look at, so this is all new to me. Apparently its pretty simple though, so it shouldn't be difficult at all, right?

So, alternator wireto starter solenoid, then big wire to the battery? Then I connect the ground wire from the negative terminal a clean spot on the trunk metal? Would standard 10ga. be decent for the alternator to solenoid, and the ground?

Sry for the newb q's!
