also change yoru driving habits.

driving 55 versuse 70 uses 15% less gas.

my ford fusion will get 35 MPG doing 55, at 70 im getting 28-30.

multiply that by 15 gallon gas tank thats 75 extra miles to the tank full. you basicallyl save 2.5 gallons of gas. thats 10$ every time you fill up.

it takes 60 dollars to fill yp my jeep, id love to save 10 bucks everytimg.

+1

Classic Mustangs aren't much more aerodynamic than bricks (.54 drag coeffecient vs .64, iirc). The faster you go on the freeway, the more drag you create and the worse mileage you get. Depending on gearing, optimal speed is usually around 50-65mph.

www.gassavers.org is a good forum for fuel conserving enthusiasts. I'm a member there and would regularly get my old DD in the 50's mpg range.

The biggest improvement you can make is driving habits. Watch your overall speed and no jack rabbit starts are probably the best...

I just got back from a trip - Cinci Ohio to Central Jersey and back - 1250 miles round trip. Got 20 MPG!! I was VERY surprised. STock 2.79 gears with posi installed. 289. Edelbrock performer manifold and 500 CFM Performer Carb with electric choke. Chinese HEI Ignition ($60 ebay) and 2 inch dual setup with H pipe. C4 auto transmission with full race shift kit. Healthy motor rebuild. Can light 'em up in 1st and healthy chirp in 2nd even with the 2.79 rear!! Fun car to drive. Getting ready to install shorty headers and an X pipe ahead of the mufflers. Can't wait to see the improvement in noise reduction and extra HP.

I swapped in the AOD and with my 2.80 rear end, I get 20 mpg on the highway at 75 mph or so. I have heard that my car is over geared because it runs near 1500 rpm at 60 mph.
