Default Magnum500's

I don't get it. So today I realized that they are called Mag wheels becuase they are a magnesium alloy. Maybe that's not specifically for the Mustangs(?), but so I heard. However, all the 500's I see for sale are steelies. Are aluminum or magnsium blends even available?

"Mags"... yes refer to magnesium wheels. The term was coined in the 60s when wheels such as ET Slots hit the market.

500s aren't mags..they are "Magnum 500". this was a model that came out in 69. They are different items.

Ok, I figured they might be a whole different thing with a similar name. Thanks!

These are the most common "mag" wheels.... Magnesium yes, commonly called "Slotted Mags" and VERY good looking on alot of classics, IMHO.

Ok, I have a few questions just out of curiousity's sake. They can't be pure magnesium, so what are they blended with...aluminum...steel? Pure magnesium is relativly soft, and if you've ever seen what happened to the old F1 cars with magnesium bodies when they wrecked, you'd see why they don't use them anymore.

And how much lighter are the "mags" as opposed to aluminums?

I have a set of wheels I'm using now just to roll it around while I work, and they look almost exactly like that, but they are aluminum (unless im mistaken). Same design, but it has the "slots" around the stud holes.
