mail order catalogs
Avoiding a venrdor in your home state might mean avoiding sales tax.
This may have changed, but for many years, the big vendors in Texas were the most expensive.
If the part you're looking for isn't Ford original, check another vendor. California Mustang and Sacramento Mustang and Mustangs Unlimited have always had great inventories, service and prices (there are probably more classic ponies in CA than anywhere).
NPD is overpriced and designed for the convenience of mechanics who have to deal with a different car every 5 minutes They carry every part for every car make. The Paddock and Summit are great for aftermarket stuff.
Also, JMO but retain the value of your car by not getting 65 parts when the 64½ part is applicable, like your sweep speedometer. Also, hang on and restore any rare part like a rear valance with no back up lights (back up lights were optional the first year) or bench seat, dash clock, Philco radio, etc.

I don't use Sacramento Mustang or California Mustang simply because their websites suck:-| Mustangs Unlimited's isn't a whole lot better. If I can't find the part on the company's website, it's not likely I'm going to order from them.
Glazier's has by far the best web catalog I've ever used. Mustangs Plus's is also pretty good, but I'm used to walking in there and buying stuff.

I just bought a 64 1/2 been looking on the internet for parts (upholstery suspension molding interior etc.)

Just a thought. But I've used almost all of the catalog houses mentioned, with no bad experiences.
I've ordered most of my stuff from NPD to date. I place an order thats 300.00 or more to get their free shipping. I've found that many of the other sites while initially cheaper make up for it in shipping. With over 2000.00 worth of purchases from NPD its pretty much worked out the same as if I'd ordered from the other places.
