68 fastback ground up build help
complete ground up build. I'm buying a perfect shape body shell and base chassis. No floorpans, firewall, ect. I'm planning this because then I can build it exactly how I want. I could buy a full car in need of restoration or a roller but I figured this would let me build it exactly how I want it.
The fastback interior stuff is hard to find, some panels are still not reproduced yet. I will never do it again from scratch. My next build will be a complete car and go from there. Good luck and don't **** off your dad, you will need him more than you can imagine.
thank you for the help, and once I have the shell my dad will be open to help because i have it now so might as well help kinda thing. Here are some pictures of the shell. There is surface rust that i cansand and paint with anti rust chassis paint. What do you think? Should I buy it, or wait and buy a complete, restoration needed fastback? The reason I want to start with the shell is, from experience from the jeep, replacing all the little stuff is hard, and if i build a FB i want to restore it to like new.

Sorry to be the barer of bad news but that thing is not worth anything. Does it come with a vin tag that you can register the car at the DMV? The car is all cut up and your going to have a handful getting the floor pans to line up again. That cage is worthless, square tubing and mild steel is sooo outdated. Almost looks like the guy just bought some body panels and seen how much work it was to build a car, and gave up. Keep looking for somthing better..
That looks horrible. Only thing I would buy off that is the hood. Why don't you just get a coupe? Easier and cheaper to find. Then wait until you are older and then buy a fastback.
that car is not worth anything.
it will cost you at least 10k to get this thing even close to looking like a driveable car. 4500 wont even get you a crate engine.
i know you have your mind set on a FB build, but i highly suggest finding a coupe in running condition and building it from there. since your 15, you will lose motivation and interest on a FB like that after 2 days of working on it since you probably dont have any experience in doing a lot of the work yourself. im 19, and have lost motivation on my car too many times to count. i work at a high performance engine shop so i got my motor for cheap. but i still am broke and dont have the money to work on my car. so i have to do it one step at a time.
so find yourself a complete car, preferably a 6 cyl. and strip it and build it. that way you have everything to rebuild and restore. no searching for hard to find parts or buying brand new parts when an orignal would be just as good if not better.
good luck.

thats not a car thats a sheet metal bin
you watch too much overhaulin on TLC, the work that will go into getting the body on track will take a year, if you worked on it at nights. thats a roll cage your going to have to take out, and thers nothing there. theres no "FLOOR" reproduction, they have patch panels and cut outs
there is not enough car to start with
keep looking
expect to pay about 5-6 k for a completely rusted out shell
and 10 for a perfect body.

First off... not to ruffle any feathers of folks with Eleanors, or that love Eleanor...
But drop the Eleanor idea... I get it. I do. It's a beautiful car.... but by time you get around to finishing this car, people will probably BARELY remember Gone in 60 Seconds...
A Gt-500 is timeless. Go with that, but Eleanor is a GT500 build PLUS some... moving gas filler neck, side skirt exhaust, wheel well flares, etc etc.
Build a fastback into what you want, if that's your goal.
You've got to start small, bud. I bought a 67 coupe when I was 12, have owned many since then, I am now 21 and own my 70 Fastback with a 408W, and a 66 coupe with an inline 6 for my fiancee'.
We see kids like you come and go here very regularly... don't be a statistic. Save your money, and in the meantime, hang around here and LEARN. Buy some books, read them. And quit watching Overhaulin, lol. It doesn't happen like that in the real world.
I know many people that don't even care for the look of a fastback... Coupes can be made to look just as mean, if not MORE badass than some fastbacks... and with a coupe, you rarely run the concern of depreciating the cars value by customizing it... it typically is a more solid investment for people looking to alter their cars in one way or another.
I'd offer than guy an even $800 for that shell.... and not a penny more. I'm sure hes asking more in the ballpark of $4000.
Let us know where you're at once you've considered things a little.
