Default Oil Priming Question

I am ready to fire the stang. i am spinning the oil pump. the valve convers are off, shouldnt i see oil on top of the heads. Does the engine actually need to be running to get the rocker arms wet?

I dont wanna turn it over if there is no oil flow!

i have never had luck getting oil at the rocker arms while priming. i usually install a mechanical oil pressure guage and then prime the engine making sure that it has good oil pressure. i think to get oil at the rockers that the engine has to be rotating. doing this i have never had a problem

The oil pump doesn't "spin". It's bolted onto the block. You're spinning the oil pump driveshaft.

You do realize that the oil pump driveshaft spins counter-clockwise, right?

Dave, i did not know that the shaft spins counter clockwise. This being said, i assume the the drill needs to be in reverse. i know the question seems redundant but i just want to be sure.

If i do this, will i then get oil to the top of the heads. IE, get the rckers wet?

Now that you know the oil pump drive shaft spins CCW, guess what else does? The distributor rotor. If you ever have to change your spark plug wires, remember to route them CCW following thefiring order.

Glad to be of help.
