Dim lights
Fast question.....
I have noticed that the lights behind my instrument cluster that light the gauges are pretty dim....like you can hardly read my guages at night.
Is there some way to make these brighter?
Maybe some way to install new bulbs, without replacing the gauges.
Have also noticed that there is a voltage regulator back there that I have seen for sale....could that be part of the issue?

You can replace the bulbs relatively easy. But I would start by measuring the voltage at the lights. If the voltage reads fine then look at the ground point, if the voltage is low, then look at the headlight switch for the problem source..
When I did a quick restore on my cluster, polished or replaced the lenses and cleaned the white paint behind the cluster I noticed a marked improvement. Not to mention it looked sweet as hell all cleaned up.
Thanks guys.
LCC - I just replaced the light switch last weekend due to the fact the lights were cutting out on me...always something isn't it?
I had been looking around on the net and couldn't find any bulbs at a couple of vendors but when I got home I pulled out the actual paper catalog and found them....yeah, it's those kind of days that make you feel like an idiot.
What I might try is changing the bulbs since heaven only knows how old they are, then clean or replace the lenses and go from there.....sound like a plan, sure wouldn't hurt anything I suppose?

I haven't driven the car a lot at night but so far yes the new light switch seems to have fixed the problem.
After I replaced the switch I let the car idle for a while in the garage with the lights on and the lights were not cutting out any more on me.
I also took it for a fairly short after dark trip around the neighborhood and it did ok with no lights cutting off.

My brother's 1970 dart had the same problem. His lights would cut out after 5-10 mins.
We replaced the switch and they stayed on with no problems. Did it about 2 months ago and it still works strong.
It wasn't fun driving around in his car at night with no lights, especially with no street lights.
