Default Single to Dual MC

Hi Guys,
I just got a 66 Coupe(GT clone) that has a single bowl MC. That scares me and I am looking into changing for now to a dual bowl MC. Is there anything needed other than new lines and the new DB MC??? I figure it should be a very easy switch?? What are your thoughts???

You can get the lines as part of a kit from any Mustang supplier like CJ pony parts. It's a different kit for whether you have front/rear drums or front discs/rear drums. But the kit of brake lines and a new dual MC is all you need. If search is working again yet you should be able to find someone who did it.

Make sure you pick up the correct MC, if you're running disc up front or not. Don't expect the pedal rod to lock in the MC like the old one. The notch isn't machined into the D/MC. The swap is easy, just be sure to replacethe proportioning valve. I believe a drum D/MC has equal size bowls, where thedisc/drum has the larger/smallerbowls.

Just a reminder of the obvious, make sure to bench bleed your new MC very throughly before installing.

I got my MC from Master Power Brakes and they talked me though getting the right MC and I was pleased with their service. They were very helpfull.

I got the kit from CJ too, had to bend the lines a little and the plug for the distribution block was wrong, but few things are truly "bolt on". My car is all drum right now but I opted for the disc\drum mc because I plan on front discs later, already have a new single bowl I bought when I first got the car laying in the old parts pile! Ah well , live and learn!

Just now saw your post onchanging to a dual bowl master cylinder. I just completed this project on my 66 convertible, all drum brakes and it was relatively easy to do. I got some good advice from guys on this forum.
On thing to keep in mind is that the MC push rod that comes with the new dual bowl MC will NOT work. You must use your old push rod from your single bowl MC. The new one is too short. I had a heck of a time getting the old push rod out of the old MC.
I also ordered the kit from CJ Pony parts. Theyshipped the MC right away but I waited 4 weeks on the lines and never got them. Also the MC they sent me was a rebuilt one and I had been warned to NOT use a rebuilt MC because they would leak fluidaround the top in a short period of time. I ended up returning the rebuilt MC to CJ and I bought a NEW Bendix MC from my local AdvanceAuto Parts store and had NPD overnite me the lines from Florida.
It took me about a day and a half to complete the job but I work really slow.
Also I had some problemswith thelines leaking at the connections but finally overcame that.
Good luck with your project.
