Default Sorry insurance question again.

A while ago there was a post about insurance. I called Allstate to get a quote on my 65. They still haven't told me how much it is going to be. But what they did tell me is that I can only drive it 2,000 miles a year, and it has to be in a garage. I thought someone had metioned a company where they don't have milage restrictions and had agreed value. I was wondering if anyone knew and could let me know. Before I wouldn't mind the restrictions, but I would like to drive her around more, even thought of taking it to work it will be safe there no one can enter without being an employee (with badge), the parking space is fenced and there is only one way in or out and a guard is always there checking who goes in or out.

Have you tried auto insurance discounters. Name a value for the vehicle and have them give you an estimate for the insurance. Thats what I did for mine.

GuyBored, I think you are getting mixed up with classic car-specific insurance companies. Some classic car insurance companies have set mileage limits, some allow declared value to a certain point, etc, etc HOWEVER, none of them let you commute with your classic. They ALL state that you must have a separate daily driver. They say you cannot drive your Mustang to work, to school, etc. I have seen them say that you can only drive it to/from car shows and "outtings". I am curious to see if they would let someone drive it to the grocery store though . . .

FWIW I have a regular Progressive policy and I pay 60 bucks usd a month for minimalist coverage.

Not sure if it would be different for Vettes, but my dads vettes both have milage restrictions, and an age restriction. I have to be at least25 or 26to be covered. 8/9 more years baby :c)

I use Hagarty on my 65. They have no milage limits, but you can not leave the car unattended and it has to be stored in a garage. Driving it to work, or the grocery store is not a good idea. They want your home owners to cover theft. You set a $ value and they have to appove it. Here's their web site, you try them.

HAGERTY insurnace has ZERO mileage restrictions and an agreed value policy. I have been talking to them about insuring my '65 stang.

the nice thing witht hem is they also have NO attendance clause like some companies do. This means that you can be out on a sunday cruise and stop to eat or stop and run into a store quick and the car is still covered while it sits unattended in the parking lot.

My stang appraised at $28,000 and for 1 year of 100/300/100 converage, 0 deduct., agreed value and their basic 10mile tow package its about $490 per year.

you sure about that? i just received an email 7-28-08 from a Christy Anderson at Hagerty stating that they do NOT have an attendance policy ... heres the email a direct copy/paste from my email acct.

Dear Mr. Taylor:

Thank you for taking the time to contact us about possibly insuring your 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible. Our policy is a flexible, limited use policy. We do not, however, limit you to just show and club use. Occasional pleasure driving fits our underwriting guidelines, but our policy is not intended for vehicles regularly driven to work or school or for running errands. We look for usage that is consistent with owning a valuable automobile and the availability of insured regular use vehicles for daily transportation. While the average mileage generally put on a collector vehicle is approximately 2,000-3,000 miles annually, our policy language does not state a specific mileage limitation. In addition, we do not have attendance clauses like some other companies. This means that you are able to stop at a restaurant or store on occasion and leave your car unattended in the parking lot. Other companies will deny claims that occur during these types of circumstances.

You are welcome to garage the car in Iowa and have your policy written for the state of Illinois; we just want to ensure that your Mustang is garaged at all times when not in use. We prefer that collector vehicles are not stored in community parking garages, but we can sometimes make accommodations for the right circumstances. I suggest that you give us a call at (800)922-4050 to obtain a quote and discuss your situation in greater detail. Our hours areMonday - Friday 8:30am - 8pm, Saturday 8:30am - 4pm and Sunday 12pm - 4pm (Eastern). We would be honored to have your business and would work hard to provide you with the bestservice in the industry. Thanks again for choosing Hagerty!
Regards,

this is why i prefer email over phone. I can have written proof of who said what to me about the policy.

its about $490 per year.
Well that's a little odd... I don't know how old you are or your driving record, but it must have a significant effect on the premium amount. I'm 47 here in NC, have my '66 with Hagerty at an agreed value of $40k and my premium is $236. Less than half of what you're paying. I wonder what factors are causing this?
