Is the TRS on a V8 mustang stronger than the TRS on a I6? Ever since I did the 2v carb swap my throttle stays open. The spring isn't strong enough to close it. I need to get a new one, but I want to know if a V8 spring would help more than getting a new I6 spring.

 

Make sure the throttle linkage moves freely. It shouldn't take a lot of spring effort at allto return it to the closed position.

That said, I'd still recommend picking up an aftermarket dual throttle return spring kit from your local chain parts store.

 

I made a cable throttle setup for the new carb. So it doesn't allow full close of throttle on carb. I will check out the dual return spring.

 

2100 carb? mine had a stick to it for a while till i rebuilt it and gently filed on the throttle shaft thing that holds the plates. id second the dual return spring.

know a guy who was going to down teh free way about 65 mph when his return spring snapped, got up to about 100+ then he shut it off, and had enough enertia to coast off through an exit and into parking lot. right across from a kragenauto . funny yet scary

Are you really debating the merits of a $8.95 part whose sole design is to snap the throttle closed when you take the foot of the gas?

The entire point behind the double spring is that the smaller much lighter spring serves as a back up in case the first one breaks. You will not fail any type of safety inspection for a street car with a double return spring, in fact, since the technology is so old if you go to a mechanic who drag races he might actually fail you if you do not have it (regardless of what the law states).

And for the record, autozone puts that stupid disclaimer on almost every product they sell that is not specifically OEM replacement. It is their corporate way of saying "you can not sue me for anything that happens when you buy our stuff regardless of what happens".

 

yeah...and honestly, if your just drving around town, whos gonna know the differnce? cops likely wouldnt know the diffrence or care.
