Going to throw this out there
Anyone can build a Camaro/Chevelle. I tell people that all of the time and no-one ever gets it.
Let me guess, the ALT pulley and PS pump pulley are not lining up with the water pump/crank pulley? Everyone keeps selling you the "right" bracket and it still doesn't work?
Ford used the same/similar brackets for the 302/351 engine, but they had to use some special spacers to make everything bolt up due to the different deck height of the 351W heads. You're probably missing these little brackets. Look in an NPD catalog for "351W swap brackets". Either that or buy a March pulley system. There's one thing I'm sure of, if you throw enough money at something, it'll get fixed quick.
Do you have any local friends that are running a 351W in their car? A visual usually helps.

Not to turn this into a FORD VRS CHEVY battle, It does take a certian type of person to own either one.
A Chevy guy generally has a shorter attention span/not much patience and wants results right here right now.
A Ford guy will usually be patient and research the project a little more, before just throwing money at it.
There is nothing wrong with either one, they just have different approaches to the same results.
I myself have always been fond of Ford products and working on them.Thought like you said it can be very trying and disappointing at times trying to figure out exactally what the engineers at Ford were thinking at the time..[sm=headbang.gif]
Back in high school I put a 351w in a 79 Mercury Capri that was out of a 79 LTD, It went in with no problems at all even the exhaust bolted right up! It took about 2 days from running/driving 4 cylinder to running/driving V-8 in my backyard![sm=happy046.gif]
At the same time I tried putting a Pontiac 350 out of a 72 Ventura into a 82 Grand prix(originally was 305),It was nothing but a nightmare,Wiring/exhaust/motor mounts/water pump/ignition..etc Nothing fit.[sm=icon_quiet.gif]
Your project may also be more complicated if you are trying to install a later model engine in a early chasis.

Wait... didnt you have a 302 in it? WTF is so hard about pulling one engine and putting in another one....
I proposed to my fiance' in the Mustang also.. but I didn't have it planned like it sounds like you did. I just woke up one saturday and said "I'm going to buy a ring today"
And I'm 21... so since I AM "Young" does that make me "gay" for cruising around with a car club?
I think you're getting yourself fired up over nothing... you know what? There is ALWAYS next summer, if you don't make these cruises your so hellbent on this month. Most of the time, I don't even have as much fun as I've geeked myself up for for each of the cruises. Only about 1/5 shows/cruises do I ACTUALLY have as much fun as anticipated...
If you wanted a turn key car, you should've bought a 1999 Camaro like every other punk. You bought a car that needs work... accept that, instead of hating it and yourself for it. The car hasn't done anything to "repay you" for saving it from the crusher, you decided to put something into it that didnt belong in there...

My bro is also a chevy guy, but owns a mustang and even though its newer (so it doesnt have as much problems) he will buy a part and if it doesnt work correct he will get a little flustered (Nothing compared to dad) and just takes it back and finds anothher. he is a trial and error guy
Hold your horses cowboy.............................. a 307/350 swap can be done in4 to 5 hours, stupid easy. if your trying to fit a square peg in a round hole what else could you exspect? Take your time and do some research. it will all come together in time
So you pulled out a 302 and dumped in an 89+ 351W and you're suprised it's not a perfect match? You don't think they might have changed something in 20 years? I wouldn't expect the pulleys to match in a similar chevy swap either. That's just how it works.
Why would you drop a 351W in a place where a 289 a 302 and a 351C would fit like a glove. Why a 351W when it would have been a one day change out had you gone with a 351C. Of course the 351W is different. All you had to do was ask.
Oh and one other thing. You are 100% correct. Until 1969 the mustang was a pony car. It was not a muscle car until the change in 1969 and the 71-73 were want to be muscle cars but had potential to be. Your car never had that potential because of the size of it. Even your 1967-1969 camaros and firebirds were pony cars. Your torinos, 442s, chevelles, chevy IIs were muscle cars. Your chargers were also but your challenger was a pony car to start off with.
