I am an old sign painter.
This is nothing new Rustolum is close to One shot or Ronan sign paints.
The enamel will roll out like glass if you KNOW how to float it out with a FOAM roller.

So is my grandfather! I learned how to paint signs and pinstripe and flame cars from him... lol using a phonebook as an easel. I grew up breathing One-Shot.

My guess is your grandfather had a better hand than I do.
The digital age came in in the middle of me picking up the trade so I switched to a mouse from the brush.
I still do some yellow page striping now and then.
He have the old brushes in motor oil laying in a old tackle box still?
Says who? I've seen pics of 69chargeryee-haw's 2 beetles and charger. they look pretty fantastic to me.
One of theproblems is that you cannot judgethe quality of a paint job by looking at some pictures on the internet. It's just something that can't be done... by you or anyone for that matter. You can imagine that the car looks nice in person, but until you actually have your eyes on the car, that's all it is.... your imagination.
There are no "free" lunches when it comes to a quality paint job. $50 and a lot of elbow grease wetsanding 20-30 coats of enamel paint to yeild what? Marginal results?
Secondly, from what I've read (and I'm certainly not the expert on this matter) the finish doesn't last for more than a couple years (at best) and to re-do the paint job means that every square inch of paint has to come off before real automotive paint can be applied.
I've said this before and I'll say it again. Please do not read Car Craft, Mustangs&Fast Fords, Hot Rod, etc., etc., under the assumption that you're getting an honest report on a new product/technique. The magazines stopped being helpful when they sold their souls to their advertisers. Every product works great in their magazines. 60% of the magazines are an advertisement! I'm actually waiting for the issue to come out (not that I'd know about it until someone told me) where the $29.99electric supercharger that plugs into your cigarette lighteris trumped up toboost HP and save you 7% on your fuel consumption. If an article is ever published to the contrary, it's probably because the"electric supercharger" company refused to advertise with the magazine.
Rant over,
Dave
Actually Dave, I've read most of the thread on the roll on paint method on the Moparts.com website. At least one of the other members on the thread had visited and saw fist had the paint on the charger, and bettle, and also verified that it looked good. The Charger did not fade after a year, it still had a shine after several years (that was 05 or 06). Most people put down 6-12 coats, depending mostly on the color (bright colors seem to require more than others for full coverage) that's well under 20-30 coats. Some people have been able to bang a decent paint job out in a 3 day weekend.
If you're looking for a restoration or a show paint job then it's obviously not the way to go, but if it's a driver it can be done with more than acceptable results.
