1965 K Code Convertible?
ORIGINAL: davesanborn
Possibly, but in all of my years, I've never seen anyoneable to re-stamp an inner fender apron like the factory did. In '65, the inner fender aprons should have three VIN stampings.... 2 on the drivers side and one on the passenger side. Peel the fenders away for a quick and easy verification.

MAY be a fake

I agree, but I've also seen Mustangs where the front of the car was a k-code, but the rest of the vehicle was not. There are talented bodywork artists who will take a rear-wrecked K-code and graft the front-end to a regular car to "create" a k-code car. With the value of these cars being so high, it can be cheaper to "fix" a car in this manner.
where the front of the car was a k-code, but the rest of the vehicle was not.
The above statement is impossible.
If I own an original K code car and it gets in an accident and I replace the roof, quarters, tail panel, trunk, frame rails, etc., etc...... do you know what I have when it's all fixed?
A K code car.
If I find an original K code car sitting in ole man McGradys' back forty..... the whole car is completely rusted out and I send it off to a restoration shop to have it fixed.... do you know what I have when it's delivered back to me?
A K code car.
If I have an original K code car with a Fram oil filter on the hipo 289.... do you know what I have?
A K code car.
The "car" will always be an original K code car. The condition of the car can change, but not it's "K status".
My point is, it doesn't really matter how the repair is expedited. "Back-halfing" a car is a method of repair and nothing illegal. If it's a crappy job, that has nothing to do with it. Someone can install a door mirror and do a crappy job. It's still aK code car.
