Master Cylinder Help!!!
hahahaha, i went through the same thing, i tied the push rod to my cars axle and the master to another cars axle and had to put the car in drive to separate them,..i played with it for 2 days before this and could not get them apart,...
Lock the end of the pushrod in a vise or something, push the MC towards the rod (to get a running start) and then give the MC a serious yank. The plastic retainer should snap and allow the rod to come out.
Everybody buys the kits.
Phooey.
If you use the MC from a 1974 Maverick you won't have this problem. The Maverick MC comes with a new rod that is the same as the one in a Mustang. The MC bolts right in, new rod and all.

So your saying that it just takes alot of force and there's no real trick to getting it out.
I had the same problem with mine, racked my brain for hours! Then I did some research, and ended up putting the m/c in a vise and attatched a slide hammer to the pushrod, and after about ten minutes, voila! Just remember, when you reinstall the pushrod, it will not be locked into the new m/c, which is fine, as long as you don't put your foot under the brake pedal and pull up (learned that thankfully with car still on jackstands).
