Default Finding The VIN ??

Hi, i was looking at two mustangs in a sort of junkyard/parking lot/car storage area near my house. it belongs to some guy who owns a radiator shop next door but hes not around because hes "out making calls". The guy who was there let me take down some numbers off the inside of the door but i dono what they were because all the paint was worn off on the little metal tag.

heres what i got from the white one with black interior, Automatic, 289....

65-A-D-26-24Q-72-2

5R07T202006

its a 64 1/2 - 66 it looks like....at least from the back end....

there was a green 67-68 that was in actually great condition, all stock, and looked like it has been in an old ladys garage for the past 30 years but it would probably be out of my price range, cream interior, bench seat with fold down console, automatic and the door was locked so the worker couldnt open it to get the numbers, maybe i will get back to find out when the owner is around but anyways, can anyone make any sense of those numbers or what?

any help, thanks.

Was there a last number/letter on the door tag? (mine is a "W", meaning a c-4 transmission)

yeah, i believe it was "6". Im pretty sure it was an automatic. so i guess its a inline 6 automatic, with black interior and maybe it was painted sometime over the years because its white and the "D" would mean dynasty green correct?

Yes, "D" is Green

On my code "T" is Candy apple red.

The car was most likely painted when "green" went out of style for a few years.

Put thos numbers plus the "6" into the decoder I linked you to and see what comes up.

Hope that helps

well heres what i got.....

Year - 5 (1965)

Plant - R (San Jose, CA)

Body Series - 07 (2 Door Hard Top)

Engine - T (200 Inline 6)

Unit - 202006

Body - 65 or 66 (cannot read it, and neither body number exist...)

Color - A (Raven Black) now its white...i dono...maybe im lookin at wrong year but the door tag looked like a 65 door tag so i dono.

Trim - D (dosent exist)

Date - 24Q (March 24,1965)

DSO - 72 (San Jose)

Axle - 2 (2.83:1 conventional)

Trans - 6 (C4 Automatic) just as i thought

this car has some slight damage like dented bumper and little dings and what not...paint isnt really nice....interior has tiny rips and what not but looks like its all there none the less....rims arnt oringinal and look to be spare tires except i think the hub caps are just off....its got the 6 cyl. engine....so how much do u think it would be selling for from a guy with a bunch of cars in a lot....i mean this car isnt really used...it has basically sat there for a long time.....the thing has cobwebs on the door handles and stuff so its not like he really drives it...so anyways...ballpark price to expect?

if its cheap enough id like to get like a 289 or 302 and put it in there instead of leaving the tame 6 cyl. how much does a motor run?? and how much do u think i could get for that 6 cyl. for someone maybe looking to have a "original" parted mustang or soemthing.

thanks

If you really want an 8-cylinder, you are better waiting for one to come along. Witha a $4K budget, the engine and suspension buildup will run you over 2000 alone. I already have a v-8 and I am planning to spend almost 3,000 on the engine, intake and exhaust, then over 1000 for new suspension. I have seen cars in my area with rebuilt engines already in the 4500-6500 range. Your main scare may be rust, depending on if it sat inside or outside. I would get under there and look at floorpans, frame rails and inside the compartments at strut towers, and inside trunk.

Check cars.com or collector car trader online and look for cars in your area.
