Default Won't start - any ideas?

66GT - 289 A code - 4 spd Took the distributor out and dropped it back in - now it won't start.Turns over but won't catch. Electrical all looks good, I think I screwed up my timing. Either way,I don't knowhow to fix it- any body have any ideas? I'm pretty sure I was lined right when I put it back in but I dont know how to readjust the timing....

Do you have Spark? Is the Rotor button turning? If so follow the steps below to reset timing.

Pull the #1 spark plug and put your finger over the spark plug hole and bump the engine over using the soleniod when pressure pushes your finger away you will be on TDC. Now check to see where the rotor button is pointing. Should be facing #1 spark plug wire. Make sure your harmonic balancer is set to zero. If not lined up pull distributor up enough to rotate to #1.

MAKE SURE THE IGNITION IS OFF AND REMOVE THE COIL WIRE TO BE SAFE..........

So I followed your advice and got er going. It hesitates for an extra second before it catches and runs a little lumpy....am I off just a little bit on something?
Either way many thanks for the tip...

now you need a timing light to get it perfect. You want about 10 degrees of advance at idle
