transmission input shaft problems
this is probably the wrong place for this...
im working on a ford AOD transmission in a 84 LTD. got one from a 88 or 89 and the input shaft is sticking out bout 1/2 inch farther than the original transmission. do we need to use the old shaft and converter, or use the shaft and converter from the new one. also the input shaft in the new one wont come out... it turns but wont go in the half inch it needs to and wont come out...
thanks

You have to use the converter from the AOD for the AOD. The center shaft sticks out 1/2" from the outer shaft for the lock-up to work on the converter. Don't take the center shaft out or your going to have a good time getting it back in place.
When you put the converter back on the trans, it takes a bit to get the converter mounted on all the way on to the shafts.
When you put the trans in the car you should be able to turn the converter by hand.
Don't forget to adjust the TV cable on the trans.
