Default crazy pushrod lifter cam question

ok,..anyone that has been following my build thread knows the motor issues i have been going through,...

i purchased a crate motor from a shop in arizona, it was supposed to be a 302 bored 30 over with a edelbrock top end kit,..

had to tear the entire motor apart due to problems and build myself a new motor,...after tearing it apart i found out the pistons were 40 over,..not 30 like i ordered, not a biggie,..but also makes me question the rest of the build,...

so when i built the new motor, i didnt even glance at the lifters,..i just removed them, set them in oil in their correct location,..

i did not look at the cam to pick up any part number either,..

i put the motor back together and now i am ready to adjust my valves,...so i call edelbrock...

the original builder told me they were solid lifters, so i asked the edelbrock tech what to set the lash at,.. and he replies "we do not make any solid lifter cams" everything we make is hydraulic",...ummmmmmmmmmmm

now my questions are,...

dont the heads have to be set up differently for hydraulic and solid lifter cams? (i am assuming my heads were left alone out of the package)

if my heads were set up for hydraulic lifters and he put a solid lifter cam in, what would happen?

i was under the impression that if you have hydraulic lifters, you would not be able to wiggle the rocker around? when i got the motor you could wiggle my rockers around.

if i pull a rocker off, would i be able to push down on the push rod to make the lifter compress at all?

is there any way to tell what i have? i am super worried to fire this thing up now, and this is my fault for not checking, but its already together,..

If hydraulic lifters are filled with oil, you won't be able to compress them, they'll act just like solid lifters. At this point, I'd take the intake off and pull a lifter just to see what you've got

when i pulled the lifters i set them in a pan of motor oil about a half inch high,...they sat for about 9 hours, the new motor has not yet been primed,..

would they still be filled?

The only reason you'd soak lifters would be if they're hydraulic. Do you recall if they're solid, or if they have separate internal pieces?

ok so i went through and set the rockers all at .018, intake and exhaust,...

if this is a hydraulic cam, what is the wrose that can happen if i turn the key?

if i hear loud ticking, i am assuming they are hydraulic and would need to be tightened to zero lash,...

if hydraulic lifters are tightened to zero lash, would you still be able to wiggle the rocker around?

You don't want to do that. If it's a hydraulic cam and the valve lash isn't adjusted properly, you could wipe out a cam lobe on startup. Take it apart and check.
