Proportioning valve on 67 with drums

Over the years I've found that keeping the shoes scraping the drums evenly minimizes the zig-zagging.
Make sure the self adjusters are free and installed correctly.
There's no reason four wheel drum brakes shouldn't work properly.

No, and that's why I recommended cleaning, lubing, and adjusting them. Mine worked fairly well for 7 years, especially after I cleaned everything up and lubed the adjusters and backing plate pads. They do require a different style of driving, and you have to keep that in mind if you plan on keeping your car in one piece. But still, a panic stop was sure to send me swerving a few feet left or right, depending on how the brakes felt like operating that day.

Good note Starfury, the backing plate feet where the shoes ride are often overlooked. I actually had to have mine re-welded and built back up so the pads would move properly and smoothly.
