Smile Distributor 351w 1969

Hi! I have a worn out distributor on my Mach 1 -69 with 351w 4V. I was planning on an upgrade anyway but I dont know what to buy. How important is it with an extern ignition box. I have been looking at a Pertronix dist. with Ignitor 2 and I dont think you need a box for that one. I also been looking at Duraspark but I am not experienced enough to make a decision.
Can you help me out here with some suggestions. Thanks!

I really dont think that you will need an external ignition box. But thats my opinion. Depending on what you are running the car, if its pretty much stock or even a little peppy, an electronic ignition would do just fine. I have allways loved the billet distributors, simply because they are beautiful, but also lots of money. If you are replacing the whole thing I would go that route, otherwise just change out your cap and put in a Pertronix swap kit to electronic instead of points..

Anyone else want to chime in?

I am thinking of doing the same thing. I'm looking at the Billet Pertonix Distributor with Ignitor 2 b/c I have a modified 302 currently with a Chevy Distributor. 8P

I also do not want to have to mount a box on the side of my firewall currently. I just started doing research on it though and have plenty of other things to do first to the car...and pay for.

I've used several different ignition systems on early Fords and I think that you just can't beat the Duraspark II for the money. It's easy to retrofit by running power, has plenty of juice, is easily tailorable and you can get parts anywhere for a dime a dozen.

It might look as cool as a fancy Accel or MSD unit, but it's just as good and alot of ignition for the money. There are plenty of cars laying around behind barns and in wrecking yards from which one of these systems can be had for very little money or maybe even free.

My $0.02,
