Need Electrical Help Fast =(
Hey guys,
I just recently installed a newer radio into my car. I used an inline fuse (30A) for the power line and got everything for the radio grounded. Worked real well for about 2 weeks but now it turns off when I hit the throttle hard and just today my turn signals stopped working. The emergency flashers work, but not the turn signals. I also just installed a tach and that has been working fine too. I also smelled a burning wire smell, but it wasn't strong though.
I hope you guys can help me soon... Need to get this back on the road for school.
Thanks,
Roger

Well simple things first. Get under the dash and make sure everything was hooked up right in the first place. Then check to see if any of the wires are cut/exposed and rubbing on anything else. And look for something that looks burnt....
^^^ what he said. Also, it seems a 30A fuse is pretty big. If this is a stick, I'd look at the harness at the bottom of the column and make sure the clutch ain't pulling it. Where'd youo get the radio...?..new? Where did you wire it to?
Finally got a good chance to look at it (been working and going to school =/). I don't see anything burnt and all of the connections are fine. I decided to go to every grounding spot on the car and grind it down, clean the connectors and, reconnect everything.
I did that and nothing. So I went and pulled out the fuse box to look at it. My 20A fuse for the radio was blown, but I didn't even hook my radio up with the stock harness. I also replaced the turn-signal canister on the left side of the dash (the one for the signals) and presto, everything worked.
The only thing I don't get is why the fuse on the panel blew =(
Anyhoo thanks for the help guys. I appreciate it.

sounds like your lights are ran through the radio fuse somehow. Definitely check the wire routing if you have a chance. Usually if a fuse is blown there is a reason and it will do it again, unless your t-signal relay was the culpret (rare that it would blow a fuse). 20 and 30 amps is too much for a stereo unless you have an external amplifier and sub or something. Stereos are usually in the 10-15 amp range. Good luck and I hope this helps.
Agree with everything above.
Most stereos have 2 power sources, one off the ignition and the other to maintain a "charge" for digital settings, additional current for the unit, etc...
I am unclear as to the sources for your 2 different wires; One has an inline 30 amp fuse (recommended by the manufacturer?)... does the other one come off the fuse box and that is why the fuse was blown?
I agree it is confusing as to why a blown fuse would result in a burning smell. That is confusing. Equally confusing is the failure of the turn signal module.
Check the schematic and trace the routes to make sure things are wired correctly... that is my $.02.
