If you have the motor that is original to the car I would certainly keep it, even if you keep it on an engine stand in the corner of the garage.

Look into turbocharging the I6, much easier than swapping to v8.

I've heard good results from headers and bigger carbs too.

What ever you do, upgrade to front disk brakes.

I agonized too while deciding if I wanted to convert from C6 to a 5-speed. The old "stay origional or have something you enjoy". The latter won out, life's too short for another compromise. Unless it's a rare car in demand (big motor, Shelby etc), you really don't make that much on these cars after fixing them up anyway.
Origional looks nice on a trailer, but if you're going to drive it, might as well fix it so you can enjoy it!

Keep the 6. You can get a decent carb for cheap. I paid $100 for my 2v carb, adapter, and electric choke. Headers are also a good thing to add(next for me). You could build that 6cyl to have over 300HP.

Default Carb

Where did you buy your carb? I'm thinking about buying a new one from Pony Carbs but they are certainly more than what you paid.

I plan on replacing my 289 with something bigger maybe, but I will keep the 289 in storage that way I have the original motor.

This area should be our secret, it's practically heaven out here. Moved here from DC and New Orleans.

My car is in storage in Ohio. NORTHERN Ohio. Torture.

Will be attending JMU in the spring, so I am saving every penny. Uncle has a barn full of cars, so he offered to store it for me until I wrap up school. Im sure we will cross paths at some point. Take it easy!

I didn't do the throttle linkage setup he did. I did a cable setup. Also if you check fordsix.com and use their forums you can find people that could help you with the throttle. It seems the guy bought the new one instead of the used one. New- 85 and Used- 65 (not with electric choke). You will have to ask for electric choke.

The carbs sometimes are tuned for 4cyl engines. So you can buy the jets and set the carb to a 6cyl setup.

6 cylinder
Primary Main Jet 160
Secondary Main Jet 160
Primary Air Corrector Jet 190
Secondary Air Corrector Jet 180
Primary Idle Jet 075
Secondary Idle Jet 065
Pump Jet 060

Crap-can the 6, buy a nice 351w crate and don't look back. You will never regret it. I have done it on early Mustangs and Camaros with some buddies and they claim it was the single best thing they have ever done to add to their enjoyment of the cars.

Upgrading from a 6 to an 8 is a chore but it isn't that tough you just need a good donor car or source, space and tools. Don't worry, the knowledge and bloody knuckles will come in due course.

ok. Don't crapcan the 6. Bag it and put it in the corner of the barn.
