How's the engine? It looks great the way you have it set up, by the why what are the size of the back rims. If I where you I would paint it first. that's what I did. paint first then the engine, not there yet but hopefully soon. by the way I have a 200cid and I would like a 5.0 but it moves run's ok just needed some paint. Whats the reason you want to update the motor? just cause or is yours in a bad state. If the engine is not so good then I would go for the engine first but I guess it all depends on you. Well good luck in what you decide and if you go for the paing(hint) let us know how it comes out.

Paint first, you have a pretty stout engine already. Plus, I would rethink buying an engine from T&L.

If you've got a new cam, intake and set of heads, why not just get a stroker kit and install everything on the current block?

I second Reaver! You will need to remove the engine for proper paint. while it is out buy the stroker kit (go with a name brand kit) get the block machined and assemble the engine. it should be perfect timing!

You will be able to afford both if you do it this way. And you will learn a little more about the internals.

Engine is brand new pretty much...just a 5.0 roller block 300hp. Rims out back are 18x9.5. My motor is in great shape. Its just that ive built the rest of the car to handle a lot of hp. I have a strong aod, a 9'' detroit locker with 4.11s, and a martz rear 4 link suspension with a mini tub

As far as the motor tandl was going to do the assembly for me. Just ship them my parts and my total out of pocket after i sell my motor is 2500.

Paint is going to cost me 5-6k

You can learn how to build an engine. The first engine I built is in my mustang. It injected and blown and the biggest worry I have is will the block crack. Get yourself a book and go very slowly.
