Parking in Public
Ditto on the SUVs, in fact my hood chrome is dinged up now. I park the same way a lot of you do, in the boonies, preferable not at the bottom of a slope. Stupid shopping carts.
The "gas hog" and "polluter" comments are coming a bit quicker lately. I'll share what I say, with this in mind. I don't want to really turn someone off to my hobby, I want to educate a person who is lacking real knowledge.
First, we are the ultimate recylers. We've NOT increased the demand for new cars. If we took a 66 mustang and divided the present age 42 by 3 (the usual replacement time for most car owners) we've saved 14 cars from the roads.
Second, it's not a polluter. Hobbiests keep their cars tuned to use every ounce of gas that hits the combustion chambers. In fact, if you are sporting turbos or blowers you could pass even Californias pollution tests. (This was done in Hot Rod using a blown, tuned Nova)
Third, yes, it uses gas, however, unlike your Corolla, I can simply tune the car for either performance or daily driving very simply (I decline to mention programmers).
Then point to their Prius and bring up the fact that if that car lasts as long as your Mustang, they will have to replace the batteries at least 8 times, which means hurting the environment MINING the nickle and hurting it again dumping the batteries.

CP
I had a guy offer me $12k for my car. I told him "I would buy it for that as well but that doesn't even cover what I have invested in my engine and tranny." Most of the comments I get are sweet ride, thumbs us you know the same you guys get.
I was at a stop light next to a early 2000's BMW M3 the other day and he was looking at me nudging his car forward. I decided to put him in his place and beat him to the next light. He asked me what kind of engine the car HAD. I told him "A 6 cylinder." He looked at me in amazement. I wasn't lying, the car came from the factory with a 200 6 cyl.

haha i love my car now got me out of a close call today, i had it parked outside my house and i saw a cop walk up to it through my upstairs window, ( its not registered or insured right now ) so i run downstairs as fast as i could and asked him. " can i help you sir " and he said NO. just admiring a rough classic. he ended up being one of my neighbors i didnt know. i thought it was gunna get towed away.
do you have it in the street? id like to see them try to haul a car out of my yard. we would be in court for a while esp since i wasnt given due process before it was stolen :P
my city has an ordinance about car etc, but they have to have a warrant to enter your yard and id never admit to a car not being insured or registered etc. the burden would be on them to prove that it isnt. bu state law allows for a vehicle to be stored for any reason and the registration canceled. so im sure that the state law would preempt their ordinance.
