roll bar + 5 pnt harnesses
Pads would help, but in reality, If it were me, I'm 6'2" so my melon is going to get cracked on the roof edge anyway so safety is a moot point.
If I wanted to be really safe I'd be driving a 2008 s class with side bags and all that crap.
I say screw the pads if it's a street car. How we mod our rigs is a personal choice, anyway, so do what feels good. Jeez, I don't even have shoulder belts.

according to some of the posts i read on the forum norm linked, it sounds like i need to ditch the rollbar idea cause it could crush my skull in a crash.
but if its just a 4 point roll bar with a crossbrace, couldnt i just get some really really good foam to wrap around the rollbar?
i dont think i need foam on the rear legs, just the crossbrace and main hoop. that way i dont have to wear a helmet on the street

you want the roll bar for looks but you need the cross member for seat belt mounting right?
you can make a roll bar for the back (4 point - no parts in the front of the car) and position it so that your head cant come into contact with it (ie locate it a little further to the rear).
your back seat passengers will still be at risk from the side bars and the risk to consider is some clown t-boning you even if you are driving sensibly. If that happens and your laws are anything like ours, you're in the chit deep because your car is technically unroadworthy. Solution to that is only use your car as a 2 seater.
the other alternative is leave out the roll bar and mount your shoulder straps from the rear parcel shelf. you have to have suitable plating on the trunk side but you should have that for any belts and the roll bar if you go that way. Its easy and the whole game would be much cheaper and easier without the bars. Your still screwed for back seat passengers. unless you dont use the shoulder straps when someone's in the back.
just for clarification, the crotch strap stops you breaking your neck on your way to the footwell not just to keep you outta there :P
hope that helps

the thought of my nuts crushing is worse then slamming into the floorboard i guess. haha. but i know the submarine strap is worth it.
i think im going to get a 4 point roll cage along with the crossbrace and maybe weld it a tad bit lower than normal that way its kind of outta the way.
and ill be sure that no one rides in the backseat if i have the crossbrace bolted up. but that shouldnt be a problem cause i RARELY take more than one person when i drive. and so ill just tell everyone too bad, my car is for 2 people only
i think if i have some tall corbeau seats with the holes for the straps, and foam on the roll bar, i shouldnt have to worry about hitting it. cause its all behind me. and the seats are tall enough to block me flying back there in case of a crash.

sounds like a good plan to me. try to have the shoulder straps about level with your shoulders - not too high or low. but its academic really. if you get into a situation that critical then a little spinal compression is likely to be the least of your worries.
its only funny now but wasnt at the time - 2 of my mates slammed a tree head first last year in our local rally. they were doing 100mph when they hit. Crotch straps saved them but Jim's nuts were black and the size of coconuts for a coupla weeks after.

Hard to believe there'a a Mustang that hasn't gone over 90 on this forum. When you feel better about your car mechanically and beltwise, go for a fast ride. When I had stock gears, My car used to cruise at 90, the average speed in the #1 lane at night in these parts.
I think the best anchor points for your belts is the floor/hump on either side of the seat, if the belts are long enough. Anchoring belts to the roof or the crossmember under the package tray will work but look totally mickey mouse on a street car, IMO. Anchoring to the rear cross member of a roll cage is OK since back seats are for having fun while parked and for collecting empty beverage cans, not passengers, lol.
