Default Vinyl Dye?

Hey everyone, I've got a '68 coupe with the dark red interior and I recently got a steal of a deal on an upper and lower console. Does anyone know of a good vinyl dye that will be a good match in terms of color and sheen? I tried the Dupli-Color dye from autozone but it only comes in a maroon color that is too light and almost seems too dull. Any suggestions would be appreciated...

NPD has a dye though I haven't used it. I've never seen a great vinyl dye myself but have heard others say they had good results.

The NPD hard plastic paint is EXCELLENT and a perfect match. Make sure you buy the plastic prep, too, and prep it with that per the instructions, then use the HARD PLASTIC dye, because the vinyl dye is actually for soft surfaces.

post some pics. what'd you pay for them? I sold a set on ebay a few years back for $1700, so I consider anything less to be a steal, lol.

I always use trisodium phosphate aka tsp and follow by a wax and grease remover then once its good and clean and dry use the dye you want.If it turns out too glossy for you can take a green scrub pad and give it a gental wipe it will dull it down some.

I paid $75 for the lower and I bought the upper in a package with some other things like an original jack for the car, the deluxe gauge cluster with a clock and all of the brackets and wiring needed for both consoles for $150. I need the hard plastic dye for the lower, but the upper is soft. Here's a couple pictures of the lower console, I'll try to get a few of the upper too...

the upper is soft? It couldn't be.. I don't think...

OH YEAH. It is. My bad.

Anyway, you got a HELL of a deal, my friend. I'm pretty jealous, I'm always on the lookout for those things, so congrats. Looks to be in good shape too.

Yeah I've been looking for an original upper console for a 67 coupe in either black or the ivy gold. Like the original look so it works for us on the top. I'd also like to find a crappy base for the lower console as I'd like to use it for a custom fiberglass install.

Anyone happen to have a broken base kicking around?

I just rehab'd the console on my 68 convertible. It was in pretty rough shape. Used the NPD dye and also the prep. Turned out pretty good, but I've got the light blue interior which isnt exactly a great color for covering up wear. Dont have it back in the car yet, getting seats etc.. recovered. Also just did the front floor pans.
