front suspension install
i'm installing a new front suspension on my 66 GT and pretty much have it all done. the last step is putting the springs and shocks back in. what is the best way to go about getting the springs back in there? compress the spring, lower the lower control arm, put the spring in, jack up the lower control arm, bolt everything up including the shock and then release the spring? just seeing if there is an "easy" way to do it before i waste my time doing it the wrong way or possibly hurt myself. the coil spring perch should probably be able to pivot back and forth, right? i got scott drake parts and the perches are pretty tight and don't move. do i need to get them looser?
thanks.
thanks.
I second what Soaring said. A compressed spring can be a deadly bomb. Take great care in compressing them and handling them while they are in the compressor. If the spring compressor fails, bad things can happen.
I did not need a compressor for my 69 rebuild. IIRC, the trick was to let everything drop down and unbolt the top shock mount. There was no compression left in the springs...
