Default 1966 Mustang Inline Six Dipstick Question?

Okay, this should be a simple question for you guys.

The oil dipstick on my 1966 Mustang with a 200ci inline six seems rather loose. My experience is only with newer cars so I am use to them fitting snug.

It rattles around and will spin on its own, it appears someone bent the handle a little also and the cap part of it is also loose. There is no O-ring on it or an obvious spot where one should go.

So is this normal?

Here is a pic of the dipstick in the motor.

Thanks Again,

EDIT: Just checked mine and it looks the same. I can spin mine pretty freely. As long as it doesn't fly out you should be good. Bend that handle back also.

Thanks,

Thats good to know, I tried to find a picture of one online but had no luck.

I will straighten it out and give it a fresh coat of engine enamel.(I am painting a few other parts anyway)

Is yours completely straight?

Thanks

Get a small rubber bushing and put in there with RTV or something loke that. Put it under the cap lookin thing, it might help. But thats they way they all are.

I was cleaning up my dipstick to give it a coat of paint and noticed there is a tubular O-ring in the cap that fits over the tube. The O-ring on mine was only half there so that is why it was loose.

I doubt finding a replacement would be easy so I just put a slot screwdriver in between the part under the cap and gave it a slight turn to bend it out a bit, it only needs a little. It fits great now, if you go too far you can just squeeze it back in with your fingers.

No more loose dipstick for me.
