Default Choke Tube Question...?

Hopefully someone can answer this....
I have a '73 Mustang, with the 2100 Carb.
While re-intsalling the carb, I accidentally snapped the metal choke tube. (The one that screws on to the carb). Can I just replace this with a rubber hose? Is there a reason why it's metal and not rubber?
Thanks a whole lot in advance

It's metal cause hot air goes through it. You can buy one from a mustang parts supplier or make one out of an old metal fuel or brake line.
