Default starter probs

when i go to put my starter in... the small tooth wheel doesnt reach the flywheel. any ideas? it just short by a little they toch just enough to nick eachother but not enough for a full engagment. is there any way to possibly move the small wheel tooth up a bit on the starter?

Verify that you have the right starter. There are subtle differences between a manual and an automatic's starter.

Yeah rmodel is right, it's not supposed to hit the flywheel till you engage it.
