Help with Driver window regulator PLEASE!!!
Hey Guys, I was hoping you could help with my 68 coupe. My drivers side window is not going up or down. when i put the window handle onto the pin piece and turn it, it turns and makes a clicking noise. Do I need to replace the entire window regulator/scissors? If so...HOW the heck do i do that through the holes????? I am getting scared now. I have everything else under control on the car, but this is scaring me....i have been puttin this off, but need to tackle this now, i just don't really understand it....I have the interior book, and the "how to restor your Mustang" book, and neither are of any use at all. THANKS so much!
the door regulators are a one piece unit. They are about $60 new. with the door handels and window crank off remove the door panel.
you will find four bolts with star like washers on them. Just remove them. then remove the entire unit. You may need to put the crank back on and roll it up/down a little to get the rollers out of the tracks.
If you have a hard time getting the new one in then take off the other door panel and us it as a guide.

While I can't promise 68s are the same as 66...here's some info

I'm not sure about 67 window regulators (don't remember), but in 69, the bracketed glass slides up and down 2 poles by way of a gear-driven scissor arm. The window bracket slides on the poles buffered by nylon glides.
This system was designed so that you wouldn't need to grease the poles. If you have this system (I think you do) with those little white plastic glide bushings, do not apply grease to the poles. Grease will attract enough dirt in a short time to make the window difficult/inoperable.
Unfortunately, no one makes these nylon glides, and old stock glides from the junkyard are just as worn (passenger side ones are always better). My windows would be a little less wobbly if someone made these things one day *sigh*.
Good luck.
