Looked on NPD site and got this description for the cam. It says 289-302. But when you select the part number it gives you a different price and maybe a different cam.

CAMSHAFT, HYDRAULIC, SMOOTH IDLE, IMPROVED PERFORMANCE, ** NEW SPECS- DURATION 194 /204 @.050 , LIFT .424/.448, INTAKE/EXHAUST, 110 LOBE CENTER, 45 OVERLAP **

I believe this is your part # 6250-1A

It states that it is for a 289/302 so the firing order should stay the same. If advancing it to 10* does not work then try a little more. My car will not idle lower than 18* advanced. this is due to my cam.

remember that it only takes small adjustments of the dizzy to change the timing a lot.

if its not the timing then i bet $100 its the firing order. It is a common thing on for rebuilds.

My first thought is a vac leak also, if you have power brakes the big hose may be broken or leaking or the booster bay be broken.

Might be a manifold gasket, internal or external, or carp gasket or even a plug missing on the carb... I have seen the "missing plug issue" way more than I should have... (it is easy to leave the plug out of a new Edelbrock carb)

If your static timing is set right at TDC, that's your problem. The engine won't run like that. Try 10-12* BTDC, then move on to fuel/air adjustments.

Since you just put this thing together, you may have the valves too tight. if you can't find anything else wrong, pull the valve covers and give the rockers a 1/4 turn or so loosening.

Found it. The stock carberator spacer I used has grooves in the bottom and was hanging to far over the intake adn causing a big vacum leak. One new aftermarket spacer and new gaskets to care of idle. timing at idel is 5 degrees. What should it be. Now if I can find out where a tapping noise is coming from I be golden.
