Also what year Tremec will work and what bell housing is needed? I already have the parts to install a T5 with the cable clutch so is there anything else that will be needed?
Thanks guys

Ok guys I did some extra research (prob should have earlier) and it looks like I need to go with a Tremec 3550. So everything I have already purchased prob needs to be sent back! LOL oh well another thing learned. Thanks

Trannys are rated by torque, not HP. The TKO 500 is rated at 500 ft/lbs and the TKO 600 at 600 ft/lbs. This is a TKO 600 backing my 347 Boss engine. It does require a unique bell housing and cable or hydraulic clutch actuator.

The 3550 is the one I was referring to...
I have that one on my Cougar with a 450HP stroker.
Torque is what kills trannys actually, more than HP.
Was rated at about 450lbs torque. I'm border line.

I used the Ford Racing bell housing #M-6392-R58, if it's any help.
It will fit 289,302,351W and 351C. Handy piece...

Can't you buy a overhaul kit to make the t5s handle over 700 hp? or is that the c4?

I never heard of a beefed up T5 that can handle that...
Doesn't mean it has not been done but I'm very skeptical on that one.

The C4 and C6 can handle 750HP with the same amount of torque if built correctly.
I'm not an expert on auto trannies but they've been proven...

Tremec doesn't produce 3550's anymore. They've switched over to producing TKO 500's and TKO 600's. Mostly the same, just better I'm looking at a TKO 600 in the future, mostly because I like the gear ratio options. Close ratio 1-4, .64OD 5th.

G-Force makes kits to beef up T5's, but I stopped recommending them at the same time Modern Driveline did. MD found that every single kit they had in stock had a slightly oversize tailshaft that was causing the 5th gear syncro to burn out very prematurely.

A T5 built right might be just as much as a TKO, unless you can do the rebuild yourself...

And sbertram, the 5 speed behind the new edge GTs are the 3650, since mid 2001.
Before, it was the T45 I think they called it...
The 05 and up GTs also have the 3650.
By comparison, the sixxers have the T5.
