Default T5 Help

What is the difference between the regular GT 5.0 T5 and the one used in the Turbo Thunderbird?
Thanks

I think the one used in the Tbird is a NWC (non world class) it an 1983 or 1984 trans I think. Do you have the tag number? This trans is rated at something like 265 ftlbs if it was a v8 or 240ish if it was a 4cyl

The later models like 90-93 were WC or World class trans. they were good to 300 ftlbs. These trans has improved conical bearings and syncs as well. The Z-spec T5 was rated at 310ftlbs and was a WC trans as well.

Thanks for the help...don't have the tag I have just seen a few for sale pretty cheap. Wondering if it would be worth the cost to just buy one and have it gone thru to handle more power....Has anyone tried this?

it will be over 350. I have a local guy who can give me a great deal on parts and labor so I am more interested in getting a trans for low $$

you probably should skip the T5 and go with a TKO 600. I have never seen a TKO 600 but I hear you need them with an engine like yours as the T5s wont hold up.

A NWC t5 can not be made into a WC t5
A WC t5 could be made into a Z-spec t5 but that would cost more than a new z-spec

SO: dont try to rebuild a trans into something it wasn't originally.

I am rebuilding my z-spec right now It cost me 400 bucks for the rebuild kit and a 1st and 2nd gear.

There might be some alternatives I don't know...I'm pretty sure the TKO is what you need... Hopefully someone can verify that

You can go with the Tremec, with correct bell housing...
Much better than the T5. Stronger and smoother.
