Default Fuel Line Question

I was working on the brakes on my 1966 mustang 289 when I noticed that where the fuel goes under the front subframe it was a rubber hose. Is it not supposed to be a one piece metal line from the tank to the pump?

On a 66, it should be a single line from the tank rubber hose connection to the fuel pump rubber hose connection, so yes. 67/68 have a short rubber hose joining the two piece metal fuel line just behind the driver's side torque box.

The engine rocks a bit when you accelerate, so a little flexibility at the engine end of the fuel line is absolutely necessary. Hard fuel line tubing is not nearly sturdy enough to hold the engine still, but would fatigue and eventually break instead (and leave you with a fuel tank siphon you didn't know you had . . . ).
