Default Wheel width, how much would it really matter?

How much of a difference between getting an 7" wide wheel with 225 tires over a 8" wide wheel with 245 tires really make. Would it be noticeable or ever matter on a 67 with a 289 that may have a mild H/C/I done to it?

Or would the better solution be to stagger?

You'll think the look is most important until you realize the fit is what is most important. If you have any doubts (sounds like you do), then go with the 225's on 7" wide rims.

I'm not as concerned with the looks as I am with the functionality, practicality and fitment of the wheels and tires. And yeah I do have doubts, this is obviously a large purchase and I would like to get it right the first time.

I've ran 245s on 7" rims and now I run a 235s on them.

Here are the 235s on the rear. They are 235/60ZR16.

I have noticed that on the 7 vs the 8's there can be a little difference in the back spacing (on some). It will pull the tire and rim under the fender lip more. Using a skinnier rim tire with the same BS will pull the edge of the tire under the rim (8" vs 7"). My advice is to have a friend that will let you try his rim/tire combo you will know for sure. I just kinda screwed up (maybe) by not doing enough research into fitting 17 X 8's with a 245-45-16 on the 65. I now need to roll the fenders and this would have been much easier and safer to do before painting. I have staggered sizes on two cars. Looking at them, you will have to read the tire size to know that they are different.

I have 8s up front and 9.5s on the rear of my 68. The front is no problem but the
rear's are a tad too close to the fender lip. I went with 5.25 backspacing on the rear
but 5.5" would have been better. If I were to do it again i would go with narrower rims as
I will probably have to roll the fender.
