What I have learned is that the wider the rim, the wider the section of the tire. Every 1/2" increase or decrease in rim width, gets you +/-.2" in tire width. This is one way to deal with clearance issues.

modern backspacing is 5.62" on the newer 05+ whels (I think) I used 1.25 inch spacers on the rear and 1.5 inch spacers up front. (Again I think thats what it was. and I had to use the inner wheel stickie balancers on the front to clear the A arm not the rim edge weights.
I paid $300 for my set of rims and tires and then another 150 for the spacers and had to change the front tires to a shorter size (235 45's vice 235 55's so that the wheel would turn all the way without hitting the valance edge.) I like them alot.
I also think the 2003 mach 1 wheel is awsome looking on a 69-70 body and the new spoked shelby wheel too.
