Default air tool problems

I recently purchased a DA sander for my 66 coupe and I am having trouble using it. I hooked it up to my compressor at 100lbs and the thing spins but when I put it to the car and put even a little bit of pressure on it it will freeze. Is it suppose to do that? What am I doing wrong?

they require air tool oil i believe...did it say to oil it...did you?

not sure what else it might be...Well it might be an air volume problem as well...any kinks in the line..what diameter line?

typically da's have a regulator on them, perhaps yours is less noticeable than others and you have it turned down very low

also oil it every time you use it for any extended amount of time

I had the same trouble. Its a volume issue. put the DA down and get your angle grinder and go get stripper disks. you can get them at OSH there called "Rapid Strip" stripping disks - pail blue in color. get 4-5 of them, they will do the whole car.

What size is your compressor, hose and fittings. You need a SIGNIFICANT size compressor, like a 5HP/80 gallon to run it for any length of time. You also need 3/8" hose and no super small fittings.

You can get by with a couple of horsepower and maybe 30 gallons, but you will get lots of coffee drinking time. Also, the cheaper the DA, the more volume it will need.

On my DA there is a **** under the handle that can be used to limit air volume. If there is a ****, experiment with it.

Its an ingersoll rand and I called them up and they said my air compressor (which is a trades pro 30 gallon 5 peak horsepower / 4 working horsepower. Durable cast iron cylinder. Oil-lubricated motor for long life. Delivers 6.4 CFM @ 40 PSI, 5.6 CFM at 90 PSI. 125 PSI maximum) cant handle the DA. It needs like 17 cfm. So there is no way this DA will work with my compressor?

Nope. Either get an electric one or use the discs mortman recommended. The DA is more versatile, though.

Same DA i wasted money on. you have to try these http://www.ind.nortonabrasives.com/m...yer%207598.pdf

Strangely, the ones in the link are the industrial ones but they don't hold a candle to the DIY line available at Orchard Supply (light blue in color). The drill mounted ones will not work, you need an angle grinder.
