Default Ignition switch wiring help

Ok, im rewiring the ignition switch however the switch has 5 posts. none of them are labled. how the hell do i know which one is batt, ign, start, acc etc. and why is there 5 posts when you really only need three or four.
i already took the wires off and i cant retrace my steps or where the wires went to, so thats out of the question. does anyone have a wiring diagram for the back of the ignition switch?

wiring diagrams with colors etc should be in the FAQ:
http://midnightdsigns.com/james/FAQs.htm

from here:
http://www.midlife66.com/wiring/wiring.html

you should have 4 posts:
1. Starter (S) is red-blue (1 cable) going to backuplightswitch/(Neutral safety switch!")
2. Battery (B) is yellow going to battery side of starter relay (starter selonoid)
3. (C) is pink (resistor wire) going to fusebox
4. (A) has 3 cables attached:
- Black-green going to fusebox (meeting orange/yellow from flasher on the way)
- Green-Red going through firewall connector eventually ending up on "S" port of Voltage Regulator
- Blue-Red going to an inline fuse meeting a connector which seems to be underdash somewhere ...

hope it helps

ignition problems are a hassle, had to do that on mine. Buy a chiltons book at your nearest parts place for twenty bucks and youll have everything to fix ur car in a jiffy. i think my baby found himself a GF. 67 GTA 390 S-code. with original honey comb on the rear end.

also i cam across an extra tab on the light switch as well. ugh. does anyone have any 1st hand experience or suggestions on the light switch too?

does anyone have what each wire color means for the turn signal harness. for example, yellow is the horn, red with white stripe is the left turn signal, etc etc. the wiring schematics that is mentioned above, doesnot give what each wire is for.
