Default New carb cuts out, why?

Installed a new Edelbrock carb (#1406) and Performer manifold on a 302. It seems to run great and then, if you press the accelerator anything more than veeery gently, it cuts out; like you pulled the fuel line right at the fitting. Pump and fuel lines are all checked out....6.5 psi and all new lines/filter into the carb.

Is the float too low? I thought these were near tuned right out of the box. Any thoughts? Thanks all!

vac leak maybe. unless its WAAYYY off a float won't cause that issue i would think.

fire it up and fog some carb cleaner at the base of the carb and around the intake..if the engine changes tune then its a vac leak.

are all unused vac ports plugged?

Thanks for the help. I reset the mixture and let it war up and the choke get open - no problems. Thanks again for the input.

Yup. Runs good, feels good. Not like it's getting many miles but so far, so good. A little cough when I start from 0 and punch it.

This 302 was the 2bbl, single exhaust version. Trying to get some ummmmph out of it. I need to look up the specs for compression to see if I can ever get any power out of this thing. Cylinder heads are likely another limiter.
