you can actually get in there with bigger hands as well. you just need the correct 'path' ;-)

as I said the most important is to check if you didn't acidentally pull the inner cable out of the gearbox. you can see that when the inner cable is protuding way out of the thread.
let's say something like 1/4 or less is what it should be. maybe even less. long time i';ve seen that last.
