msd distributor?

help please!! will a msd #8582 distributor work on my 68 289?

Yes, but you will need an MSD box to control the coil. If you would prefer an MSD distributor that is ready to run and doesn't need a control box, then try the 8352. It has the added advantage of a vacuum advance which is better for street use.

thanks fakesnakes i got the dist and 6al box in a trade just wanted to know if it would work on my engine. there was some talk on here about iron,steel,and bronze gears just wanted to make sure, any way to easily tell the steel gear from the iron and which one i need

That distributor has an iron gear which is compatible with a flat tappet cam in your 68. So unless, you have upgraded to a roller cam retrofit, you are good.
