Default Trumpets

Fair warning ahead of time that this may be a clueless question but....

A while back I found some factory style exhaust from a guy across town that was in great shape. Places sell these for about $390 or so and I got it for $100...your generic craig's list score basically. It had very minor surface rust on the weld joints that was it. I wire wheeled it, painted it with high heat paint and it looked great when done. Also nice because it was larger than the exhaust I had and the old pipes were seriously rusted btw...eventually I plan to add shorty headers and probably an h-pipe.

When we put the exhaust on I bought some new trumpet extensions. Not all of the extensions' pipe went inside the exhaust pipe. Didn't think much of it when we were putting it together. However, now they are starting to get some light surface rust on them.

With them on the car I can't really spray them with high heat paint without getting it all over everything else.

Any ideas on what I should use on them (without removing them from the car) to keep them from rusting.

My only idea was to drop both the hangers on each side to give myself some more room then try taping off with news print everything else around and try spraying them but it seems like there might be something better. I do know that unbolting the hangers will allow them to hang down lower about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. I also thought of brushing on something like Rustoleum (sp?) hammered but that would probably burn off not being high heat.

Is that the link you meant to post?

It took me to a Ford racing crate engine...not that I would mind if you are offering to pitch in, LOL!!!!
