Back to the topic. If you use a kill switch (fuel pump, MSD white wire, start circuit, etc.), you have to hide it somewhere and it could be found. If you use something that must be removed from the car (chip, plug, dummy lighter, etc.), the wiring in these cars is so basic that often it can be bypassed. Perhaps the best solution is a device the locks up the brakes or steering? I know the club is quickly bypassed by cutting the steering wheel (standard and aftermarket Mustang wheels can typically be cut in less than one minute). Is there something else that locks up the brakes or the drive train? I guess you coulded always get a removable steering wheel and take it with you where ever you go!

The "BEST" classic security you can have is good insurance. If a thief wants your car, and he has the just a little talent, it will disappear. Haven't you seen "Gone in 60 seconds". Haha.

Well I have good insurance but I went ahead and requested a price on the Ravelco since I have a classic truck (with sentimental value) and my mustang. I'll let you all know what I find out.

We have a kill switch hidden inside and a 200 amp manual circuit breaker on the battery which is located in the LOCKED trunk. Flip the circuit breaker and close the trunk.
Only way it is moving is with a tow truck....

With classic cars, as with most any car, with a kill switch system, I supposed you could hotwire it and drive off given enough time, knowledge of the security system, and car. The big question is can they do it while you are in the restaurant eating your lunch? If you park your mustang in an unlit parking lot for a week, I think I could even steal it , but no way I can hot wire the car in daylight in front of people in 30 minutes. Splicing cables with the hood and trunk up, might draw some attention.

Auto taser works, but by hurting people. If it's a little kid who somehow gets in the car to see the cool mustang, I wouldn't want to be responsible if he got really hurt or died.

There is no lock that will stop a thief. Your best bet is to slow him down. If there are layers to go through, it will take so much time it won't be worth it.

If the hood is locked AND the solenoid was in a lockbox AND there was a hidden kill switch your car is safe unless you park it in a completely desolate area for a long time.

I don't bother locking my doors. If I did, I would either lose my quarter window one day, or my side window moulding would get chewed up. It's pretty easy for any 12 year old to get into a 69 Mustang with no window frames. I'd rather they didn't F up my car. I keep it clean so there's nothing to steal inside.

I have a cable lock that locks the hood from underneath, but that's it. No one has ever stolen it, and if they do, I've got loads of insurance.

Slapping on clubs are literally a waste of time (Jeez, every time you park?!) and just beat up your wheel. Fake is right, you can just cut the wheel in seconds.

The correct level of security should only be applied. Too much wastes time and money, too little and you lose your car. There's no one answer for everyone.

Just wanted to give you all a follow up on this. I emailed the company and here's the response I got back.

Hello Brad:

Unfortunately, RAVELCO is without a Dealer or Distributor in your area. Until we can establish reputable representative in your area, you can buy a RAVELCO Anti Theft Device directly from us (the manufacturer) and have it installed by your own local auto dealer or mechanic shop (cost of installation approximately $150 - $200). Most any mechanic can install the RAVELCO without the need of any special tools. The Ravelco will not affect and can be installed along with any other type of security system.

We would like to stress four important points:

1. When you buy directly from the factory, you have an opportunity to have your RAVELCO installed whenever and wherever you wish. (Your convenience -- and safety -- are our primary concern.)

2. To date, no vehicle protected by the RAVELCO has EVER been stolen, and the product has been on the market for 32 years.

3. Your insurance company will discount your auto insurance premiums once you advise them that your vehicle is protected by the RAVELCO.

4. The RAVELCO is guaranteed for life.

If you would like for us to ship a RAVELCO Anti Theft Device to you send $269.95 US Dollars (If you are in Alaska - Hawaii or another country, please add $35.00 (US Dollars) extra for shipping) in a:

Cashier's Check, Money Order (will ship the next day) or
Personal Check (will ship in one week) to:
Sorry - we do not accept Credit Cards, PayPal, non-US Checks or non-US Postal Money Orders.

To:

RAVELCO Anti Theft Device
6920 Oak Knoll Drive
Richmond, Texas 77406-8660

281 341-6222

We are the manufacturer, not a reseller so therefore there are absolutely no refunds or returns.

Be sure to include the year and type of vehicle it will be installed in so we can send you the proper installation instructions.

We ship by UPS, so we will need an address to ship to. WE will not ship to a PO Box.

Please view the News videos on our web site . . . if you do - you will become a customer!

Sincerely,

Dave Atkinson

Evil eleanor is right i drive a repo tow truck i can take your car in under 30 sec and drive off.I don't have to get out of the truck,Even if you pull the parking brake i can drag it slow enough you don't hear anything.I have never stolen a car but it can be done real easy.I forget the companies name but someone makes a locking shifter handle that looks stock.
