I got the rear axles back from the shop where they pressed in some new studsand put them on. I test fitted all four wheels and the back ones fit with about 1/2 clearance from the axle bumpers. They also measure correctly to fit in the fender without issues. The fronts.....well they arn't that bad I need to so a little trimming on the lip of the upper control arm because when they turn they hit. The front fenders will need rolling and maybe some slight bending but they will be well worth it in the end. I actually went to our local Town Fair Tire and picked up their last set of Avon M500s. I was orginally going to get the Sumintomo HTRZ but ended up changing. I think the look a little big but once they are tucked into the fender and the car is lowered it will look 100% better.

I really like that wheel. They are going to look awesome on the fastback. Congratulations. I think the wheel and tire combo is 50% of your looks.

I called OE today and talked to a guy named Scott. He was pretty helpful. I will be ordering my FR500's on Friday. I'm getting the 10's in the rear and 9's up front. I will be running the Nitto 555r 285's in the rear and Nitto 555 extreme 245's up front. I won't need any spacers in the rear since my rear end is wider than normal so I can go with a bigger backspace. The fronts may be fine with a 5.9 backspace since I am running a 18 and won't hit the upper ball joint. I guess I'll find out when I get them.

You guys can't beat the deals at OE. Mounting and balancing, lug nuts, and shipping are are included in the low price. I just wish they shipped to Alaska for free

Well here...
I got the wheels on the ole Cougar, and going with the 71 rear, got me what I needed to clear the leaf springs.
I have a quarter inch clearance, the rim is 3/4 away from the leaf and the 315/35 tire bulges out about 1/2 inch.
On the outside, I will have to roll the quarter panel lip to clear such a tire but I knew I would do that anyway.
On the front, I'll need to go with a different wheel because it's pushed inside too much.
The backspace is too big on that 9" rim, so maybe I'll go 10" with the same tire (275/35). Not sure, I'll have to call OE and see what else they have...
I sure love the look now

For the Moderators of this section...
I hope you're cool with me for posting mods about a Cougar, if not, I'll stop.

I figured, since they're sister cars, this can be done on a 69/70 Mustang just the same, since rear ends and suspensions are pretty much identical.
Leaf springs on a Cougar are longer because of the overall 2" longer wheel base, that's the only difference. The width remains the same as well, so are the inner/outer wheel housings.

Anyway, if someone wants to stuff big meaty tires on a 69/70 Mustang, here's one way of doing it... Requires a 71 rear though.

Its nice to have wheels and tires ready to go on, and can even fuel the drive to get more work done, but I guess you can say that about any part!

love the wheels, only i would have run 4 adapters instead of those longer rear studs. the longer a bolt is the weaker it is.

i ran adapters in the rear also gave me a wider track over just spacers too, which i needed since my fenders are flared. i really need to get a wider rim in the rear to take advantage of the flares
