I bought the wire for my upgrade at an electronics wholesale place.

They have rolls of weather-shielded wire in stock in all sorts of schemes.

I got the 12 Gauge 3-wire for something like $0.40/ft Cdn

So for a 4 light system does this mean I need 4 relays, 2 for low means 2 for high? I'm pretty sure when i researched it before I only needed 1 for the two low beams and 1 for the two high beams, but just wanted to be sure

I bought my conversion kit from "http://www.rallylights.com". The service was excellent, the price reasonable and the difference was phenominal.

Depends on the continuous current rating of the relays. Each filament (assuming they are 60W) draws about 5 amps.

1 relay will run the low beam and 1 relay will run the high beam. The relays are usually good for 30 to 40 amps

We order the relays and sockets from:
http://www.mcmelectronics.com/

http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/26-533
40A Automotive 12V Relay
cost $1.04 each (2 needed)

http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/26-1942
RELAY SOCKET 5-PIN FOR BOSCH TYPE AUTO RELAY
cost $1.29 each (2 needed)

Use this schematic as a reference
http://www.midnightdsigns.com/james/headlights.htm
You will be using single element bulbs for a 4 light set up instead of the dual element bulb shown in the schematic.
The output from the #87 Low beam relay contact will go to both Low Beams.
The output from the #87 High beam relay contact will go to both High Beams.

If I got the tri bars that switched me to an H4 bulb, and got an HID kit would I still need to upgrade my wiring or would the HID kit replace all of whatever the new harness would replace?

I took me about 3 hours and $30 in material to make mine.
If you buy the harness http://rjminjectiontech.com/?p=8 for $69 you plug into the drivers side headlight socket, connect the new sockets to each headlight, mount the relays, connect the relays to 12 volt supply (solenoid) and connect the ground. You abandon and leave the old wiring in place. Pretty easy, the hard part is done for you if you buy the harness.
Hind sight is a great thing sometimes
